Absolute Darkness Announcement Message
"The Depths grows darker..."
Overview
The Depths is an area hidden in Vertigo with glowing red crystals. Its only entrance is a door near red gems, which can only be opened if the player has 100% Bestiary in Vertigo and has obtained The Depths Key. Once the requirements are met, the player holds The Depths Key with it unfavourited to talk to The Keeper NPC beside the gate to unlock access to The Depths.
After opening the gate, the player will need to do an obby with falling platforms. The player can leave The Depths by using a Conception Conch (found near the Merchant). Upon entering, the player is met with a dark cave where the only light source are the glowing crystals on its walls. The structure of the area itself is very steep.
The gate to enter The Depths will stay open after leaving. It can be opened in a private server, however the gate is client-sided, meaning the player may only enter if they opened it themselves.
- There is a boosted catch rate of 1/100 for reeling in Enchant Relics in The Depths. With an Aurora Event, the chances increase to 1/33.
- Exalted Relic chances are not boosted in The Depths.
Maze
To buy the Rod of the Depths, there is a maze-like area the player must first navigate; it is a challenging extension of The Depths. To unlock it, the player must place two specific Enchant Relics, namely Abyssal and Hexed, onto their designated pedestals.
Notes
- The maze will not stay open once the player leaves, and must be opened by the player themselves as it is client-sided. Having another player place the Relics will not work, similar to the mechanism used to unlock The Depths gate or the Relic Rod gate.
- Navigating the maze can be quite hard, even with the Advanced Diving Gear. Therefore, it is recommended to watch a guide while completing the maze.
At the end of the maze, you will find the Rod of the Depths, available for purchase for 750,000C$.
Behind the statue, there is hidden passage that leads to a whirlpool. Entering this whirlpool will teleport the player back to The Depths, near the Merchant and Angler NPC.
Notes
- People consider this location one of the best for fishing with Mutation-based rods. The best being rods with mutation passives that multiply fish value by 4-10.
- With mutations, this location gives you an average of 50k-150k per 15 minutes.
- Despite most fish preferring night-time, fishing in The Depths is better during the day as when a player uses a rod that with high luck (e.g: Trident Rod), it will force the game to give them a high rarity fish since no other fish can be caught in daytime (Excluding Small Spine Chimera and more).
- The rate of catching Mythical rarity fish is higher compared to others areas.
- This improves significantly with enchantments such as Lucky, Divine or Immortal.
Brick
To get the Brick Rod there are 3 bricks you need to press in the same hour, one of the bricks is at The Depths. The Brick is located at X: 989, Y: -734, Z: 1136.
Trivia
- The Depths can still be unlocked if the fishes the player hasn't caught in Vertigo came from trades, eliminating the 100% bestiary requirement.
- The Barreleye Fish was unobtainable in version 1.06.0 due to a bug. This has since been fixed in Hotfix 1.06.1.
- Fishes caught in The Depths were abnormally large, in fact, about 10 times larger before they were patched in Hotfix 1.06.1.
- Prior to Hotfix 1.06.1, there were no progress speed loss inflicted for any fish/items in The Depths.
- Being able to open The Depth's gate in a private server was a feature implemented across all public servers as of November 23, 2024.
- Before, you would be able to access The Depths can be glitched into without The Depths Key or full bestiary of Vertigo by equipping a Fishing Rod, using the /e pumpkin emote, then rapidly turning shiftlock on and off while moving towards The Depths with the camera focused on the gate, but has since been fixed
